Emission Development Co-op

Cummins Inc.

During my Co-op with Emission Development group at Cummins Tech Center(USA), I got a project of comparing Particle Number Portable Measurement Equipment(PN PEMS) with laboratory grade equipment. Also measured and analysed data of new regulations on Carbon Balance Error  from engine testing under GHG phase 2 rules.

Worked as a used car evaluator in which I had to check whole car and its all systems condition. Then according to its market value calculation,I used to give prices of that pre owned cars. Also sold that used cars to customers. I was the best car selling person during my work period.

COMPARISON OF HORIBA PN PEMS WITH LABORATORY GRADE PN SYSTEM

Planned and executed extensive 3 months testing on HORIBA PN PEMS (Particle Number Portable Emission Measurement System).Based on this project’s presentation and internal technical report, Cummins has decided to acquire this instrument worldwide to meet Europe and Chinese regulations. Measured and analysed according to new regulations on Carbon Balance Absolute Error(CBAE) from engine testing under GHG Phase 2 rules.​

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING OF AN ATV

During SAE BAJA 2016, I was appointed as a Team Secretory and a Design Head. I had to assign tasks among team members and had to coordinate with them for successful completion of those.Also built the buggy from scratch. It helped me a lot to learn how to manufacture parts from CAD designs and what tolerances you have to consider during design phase.

WEIGHT REDUCTION OF CAR

I was assigned a task to reduce the weight of buggy for better performance. So I designed most compact chassis with 18% weight reduction from previous year and good factors of safety in last 8 years of our university history .  

WORKBENCH SETUP- WORKING CUT SECTION OF A CAR

During my final year project, I and my project mates set up a working cut section of four wheeler by disassembling whole car and assembling each systems on new frame by making its cut sections. New frame was designed by me in PTC CREO software.

IMPLEMENTED LEAN MANUFACTURING TOOLS    

In my summer internship at SKF Bearings, they gave me project to implement 5S in their quality receiving area. I completed that project successfully by implimenting 5S and continuous improvement- Kaizen tools over there. 

Also applied Lean tools into Harvik Engineering during my training time and reduced 7 types of wastes over there.

In MTU, I got a chance to join Leaders in Continuous Improvement Organizations and to improve Lean management into Wads worth dining area.

DESIGNING AND PRODUCTION PLANNING

In Harvik Engineering, my project was to reduce production cost and time in their plant.

I got a chance of designing new parts in PTC CREO, Solidworks and Inventor software according to customers' specifications. Also made design drawings for production, using GD&T concepts according to ASME1 Y 14.5-2009.

Using production planning methods, delivered orders Just-In-Time. Also got experience of Teamwork and Project planning by leading group of people during my internships.

By using DFMA and Lean tools, I ended up reducing 20% of production cost and 25% of their production time. It was great achievement for me as an intern in that company.

DESIGN AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING TURBOCHARGER PROTOTYPE  

​

During my coursework in Michigan Tech, I got a project of design and 3D print model which is complicated and time consuming by normal machining methods. So, me and my team mates chose Turbocharger assembly for this project. We design parts and assembled it in NX software with tolerances. Converted into STL file and 3D printed it into Material jetting 3D printer. It was working properly as tolerances provided between rotating surfaces were perfect.

USE OF DOE IN SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINE TO INCREASE  RELIABILITY

Predicted curves for failures in SVM by using MATLAB. For 3 various sampling methods performed 27 tests and draw conclusions using ANOVA table into Minitab software. From that method higher reliable sampling was founded. This curve can predict reliability for experiments in which  it is tough to take more actual readings.
